Come and join me for a Poon Choi Lunch

11th February 2019 2 By livinguktaiwan

Hi everyone! I’m Kuen Kuen, @livinguktaiwan is my great aunty. I invited aunty (she doesn’t like me to call her great aunty) to grandpa’s home for a poon choi lunch the other day.

Aunty says poon choi is a traditional meal eaten by the indigenous people living in the villages in Hong Kong. That’s where grandpa and aunty came from. It’s normally eaten during the Chinese New Year or when there is a major festival or celebration. The name poon choi means bowl vegetable and is served in a big bowl. The bowl is so big that I can sit inside! There’s a lot of yummy food in the bowl like bean curd, fried tofu, radish, fried pork skin, vegetable, braised pork, chicken, and prawns.  We also had a whole roast suckling pig and roast duck for lunch. I’m only a little baby and this is my first time in Hong Kong, and also my first time to have poon choi. It was really yummy!!!!

After the poon choi lunch, we had choux bun and home made ice cream for dessert.

I’m a very clever little boy and the night before mummy taught me to fist bump. I’m very good at it and loved playing fist bump with aunty and everyone.

Aunty made a video of our lunch and said I could invite everyone to join us as you are all her good friends. I hope you like it.  Love from Kuen Kuen
